Running title: Histoire des Roys de France.  Although David Geoffry acted as printer of this book, the title page notes it came from the print shop of S. Pierre. TYPE: Roman, Italic (both red and black ink have been used). ILLUSTRATIONS: Dozens of woodcuts throughout, woodcuts of section header images, decorated woodcut initials. Portraits are woodcuts by Jean LeClerc, except for an engraving of Henri IV, p. 129. --pre-1956 imprints. DEDICATIONS: To King Louis XIII "A noꭍtre bien aymé Louys XIII, Roy de France." PROVENANCE: CRRS bookplate affixed to the inner pastedown, and there is a note saying it was donated to the CRRS by Mary Williamson. Additionally, there is a CRRS stamp on the final leaf. On the inner pastedown, someone has written in pencil: S1 1702, complete MB2, La Colle. CONDITION:  Binding: tight-back binding. There is a leather strip on the spine, the glue of which has largely melted, and the spine also features the title of the book printed in gold capital letters. Book is in fairly good condition.  Paper: wove paper with some brown splotches and some smoke damage, some frayed edges and bookworm damage. There are variations in font sizes on the pages.  BINDING: Quarter binding, cloth over board, but binding is not original to 1613.  Boards measure 10.5cm x 16.4cm, leaves measure 10cm x 16cm MARGINALIA: Handwritten marginalia exists in addition to printed marginalia notes. TABLE OF CONTENTS: There is an appendix of years and names of kings, but no page numbers for entries. This book does not feature a table of contents or an index. TYPE: Roman, Italic. ILLUSTRATIONS: This book contains several woodcut illustrations (at least 60) as well as decorated woodcut initials throughout the book. The compartment frame for the second volume title page is an elaborate woodcut. DEDICATIONS: None.   PROVENANCE: CRRS bookplate on inner pastedown. There is a CRRS stamp on the leaf labelled "cxxx" and someone has crossed out a written note in ink, below which is a crossed out signature. The CRRS stamp also appears on the final leaf.  There is evidence of pencil markings on the flyleaf, where a bookseller has noted a price of 35.00 (but no currency), as well as the words: "many woodcuts and hundreds of woodcut, [indistinct], 1 or 2 leaves at end, leaf x 6 imperfect (p 126, book 2), Gilles Marsselus, Paris 1551, 4th ed., Ctouephes, 2 volumes." CONDITION:  Binding: tight-back binding. This is a very fragile tome and is kept in an archival, acid-free container for that reason. There is evidence of bookworm damage. This book shows evidence of having been trimmed and rebound. The ridges on the spine are likely authentic. Paper: Frayed wove pages but paper and ink are mostly clear; some damage, some pages are darkened due to time . There is water damage on quite a few of the pages. On page 17, there is a dark spot andother pages have brown spots or circle smudges. On the leaf labelled "lxiii" there is a sizeable splotch at the top of the page as well as on the leaf labelled "cxviii." More splotches appear on the leaves marked lxviii and lxxvii.   In addition, the word "FIN" written on the final leaf is in ink (leaf xliiii)  The leaf prior to cxxvii has a large rip while the leaf marked xli has a tear at the bottom.  There is evidence of possible censorship due to the leaf labelled cviii which has been glued to the opposite of cx. CRRS copy lacks t.p. and last leaf. BINDING: Leather over boards, gold decorative borders on both the front and back covers. There is a significant amount of damage to the covers and spine, which are chipping with red flakes.  Boards measure 20cm x 31cm, leaves measure 19.5cm x 30.5cm.
