No title page for Vol. 1; the book simply starts with main text after the flyleaves.
2nd sequence: leaves cxl-cxliii bound: cxlii, cxl, cxliii, cxli.
There is evidence of pencil markings on the flyleaf, where a bookseller has noted a price of 35.00 (but no currency), as well as the words: "many woodcuts and hundreds of woodcut, [indistinct], 1 or 2 leaves at end, leaf x 6 imperfect (p 126, book 2), Gilles Marsselus, Paris 1551, 4th ed., Ctouephes, 2 volumes."
CONDITION:
Binding: Hollowback. Very fragile binding, especially the chipping spine. Evidence of watermark and countermarks on both flyleaf and near the endpapers. The Rrr gathering is loose, from pages 497 to 504.
Paper: Wove paper is in mostly good condition with the exception of some folding at the corners of the front matter pages and flyleaf as well as some darkening and fraying of page edges. The book also has grooves and intendations on many pages that have formed over time. There is some smudging of ink on pages, particularly 326 and 327.
