ILLUSTRATIONS: <br />Frontispiece engraving of Henry the Fourth captioned in French with Henry dressed in military attire and a Roman laurel over his head; several instances of decorated woodcut initials; engraved illustration of French royal coat of arms on dedication page to Cardinal Mazarin and all titles pages of each section; woodcut ornament appears on the final leaf of each section.<br /><br />

PROVENANCE: <br />CRRS bookplate on inner pastedown and CRRS stamp on final leaf. Pencil on the back cover pastedown indicates “11 – 1 – 67” as well as something indistinct that has been crossed out. This could refer to the acquisition date by a library of this item.<br /><br />
<p>Someone, possibly the printer, has noted in ink: <em>H 5-10+</em> which may be a reference to how long the publishing rights were granted based on the Privilege of this book.<br /><br /></p>
CONDITION: <br />Binding: Marbled boards have scratches and some distress with the front board fully detached. Spine has some wearing and chipping near the top and bottom, but gold lettering remains visible and distinct. <br /><br />Paper: Wove paper, some pages have creases or bends, especially the frontispiece engraving, scuff marks, possible water droplets with white spots on some pages, and some browning of the pages.<br /><br />
BINDING: <br />Tight-back book. Gold decorations on the spine, including gold lettering for the title as well as "PRATT" at the base of the spine. Marbled leather over boards. The current binding is not original and would have been added later at the request of a new owner.<br /><br />Boards measure 18cm x 24cm, leaves measure 17.2cm x 24cm<br /><br />
