CONTENT:
Collection of ancient writers on military science, including Vegetius, Frontinus (here edited by Filippo Beroaldo), Aelianus Tacticus (translated from the Greek by Theodorus Gaza), and the short dictionary of military terms attributed to Modestus, but actually a forgery by the Roman humanist Julius Pomponius Laetus.
Dedicatory preface addressed to Louis de Bourbon, bishop of Laon, by editor, Guy Breslay.
Date of publication from colophon, final leaf verso: "Pro Iohanne paruo Librario vniuersitatis Parisien[sis]. 8. Iunii. Anno. 1515."
Volume contains two colophons: the first, dated 14 May 1515, occurs following the text of Vegetius; the second, dated 8 June 1515, occurs at the end of the volume.

Victoria University Library copy is in laced vellum case with remainders of ties. Limp vellum cover had yapp edges. Cover shows evidence of very old water damage that has contracted the front cover so is doesn't quite cover pages and has worn number 83 in ink. Rear cover has manuscript remnant near top edge. Spine has paper title label (worn) and manuscript title abbreviation along spine.Both endpapers lifted due to damp, revealing structure and use of manuscript waste on spine.

Victoria University Library copy has profuse sixteenth-century marginal annotations, underscoring, and pointing hands on many leaves.
