Space is an interesting dimension of marginalia; despite the blank space available on this page, the illustration is rather small. As opposed to the Holinshed soldiers, this illustration does not expand to fit the amount of empty space available. Instead, what appears is a small profile of a man, lightly sketched, with strands of hair, a pointed chin and a hat drawn in the upper middle of the page. Faded and almost hidden between two gatherings (groups of pages bound together), this illustration would be easily missed in a casual perusal of the volume.  Moreover, there is no evidence that this was part of a larger illustration: this small face stands alone.

This marginalia illustration, as opposed to others that may have survived because of their closeproximity to the type, might have been purposely saved. Several of the last leaves from the gathering were cut off, but not this one. It is possible that a later owner found this illustration to be of interest and preserved the leaf specifically for that reason.
