The Bible, that is, the Holy Scriptures conteined in the Olde and New Testament
The Bible, that is, the Holy Scriptures conteined in the Olde and New Testament (Geneva Bible). Edited by Théodore de Bèze (1519–1605), Laurence Tomson (1539–1608), Franciscus Junius (1545–1602). London: Deputies of C. Barker, Printer to the Queene, 1599.
The Geneva Bible was the first mechanically printed and mass-produced English translation of the Bible meant for direct public consumption. Originally printed in England in 1576, the Geneva Bible saw over one hundred editions issued within seventy years. This copy, bound with Thomas Sternhold’s Booke of Psalms (1639), shows how book binders could combine multiple works into a single book structure. The small size of the printed music indicates that this was intended to be used by an individual, rather than a large group reading from a single copy.
