The binding on this book is made from the discarded remains of two separate medieval manuscripts. The first is wrapped around the boards which make up the front and back cover while the other, now showing signs of wear, was used to reinforce the spine. The uneven lines cut into the musical staff demonstrate how the binding was intended to be utilitarian and not particularly aesthetically pleasing; and how disposable these manuscript fragments were considered to be.
